After missing the last two gym night due to other commitments, I returned to my school’s badminton club hoping to get my first win. I was win-less in the last two outings at the club. Many of the games were close, but my side just didn’t pull through at the end. Because of schoolwork, I thought of skipping today’s gym night, but I decided to go because I needed the exercise.
In the first game of the night, I was playing against two pretty skilled players. My partner was of average skill, and I wasn’t really warmed up, so we fell 12-21 pretty quickly. The second game of the night was against two guys, one of which was one of the opponents from my first game. I was partnered up with a girl, who happens to be our club president if I remember correctly. It was a pretty hard-fought game from the start, but my team managed to keep a slim lead. We fought to a 17-17 tie, but after that my side took control of the game. I noticed that the other guy on the opposing team wasn’t too great at hitting clears, so I blasted shots into the back corners. The strategy worked and we pulled the 21-17 victory. After two outings and 7-8 games, I finally won my first game at the badminton club.
The last game of the day was a mixed doubles pair vs. me and a big guy. By big guy, I mean the guy was *almost* as tall as I am. I think I’m the tallest guy in the badminton club right now. Back to the game, our opponents were decent but they lacked attack power nor are they very strong with clears. That doesn’t work very well when you are playing against two six-feet-plus guys like my team, so we controlled the game and won fairly easily.
So tonight I won two out of three, which was pretty good considering I haven’t won a single game in the first two gym nights. I only managed to play three games tonight because there were a lot of people who showed up. Supposedly attendance drops during the midterm crunch, but there were still plenty of people there in the gym. Lets see if I can get a winning record in the next gym night.
