Here is my first real post for this badminton blog. This blog is mainly JP’s, but I’ll post some of my badminton experiences too. You won’t see these posts as often though as I don’t play nearly as often as JP.
Anyways, tonight I went to play my weekly badminton with JP and a bunch of people we know. My first game came on, and after a few minutes I knew I wasn’t on form today. I was screwing up pretty much on every other rally, and I was sweating like crazy. I know the my cardiovascular fitness could use some improvement, but I’ve never felt like that before even finishing one game. By the middle of the first game I was already trying to catch my breath, even though the game didn’t last all that long (thanks to my underwhelming performance).
Needless to say my record today was nothing to write home about. I lost my first three games. The only bright spot was the last game, which thanks to some last ditch effort and prep talk from JP, we (me and JP) managed to grab a tough victory in my fourth and last game of the day. In that game we beat our opponents in more than one way as one of our opponents had to use three different racket during the course of the game, because the strings kept breaking on him. I would like to think his equipment troubles were due to our powerful attacks, but it’s more likely just a coincidence. JP fared better today, highlighted by two consecutive wins over some skilled opponents at the end of the outing.
I know for a fact that my badminton performance is very inconsistent, as I could play extremely well on one occasion and suck badly on another. But I think the reason for my lack of stamina today was that I was on this so-called grapefruit diet. I’ve been on the diet for about a week and I haven’t managed to lose a single pound. On top of that my strength and stamina seemed to have went down. Yes, I know this looks like me trying to find an excuse for my subpar performance, when in reality I don’t play that well. That might be true but that doesn’t stop me from trying to find something to blame on haha. Overall, despite my poor performance, today was pretty good in terms of me getting some needed exercise. Thanks for reading.
