Saturday Night Badminton: Last Session

After being out of action for two weeks or so due to a cold, I finally returned to the battlefield last Saturday for some badminton action. This particular day was the last organized session for that particular group of people we play with, and surprisingly enough, only a small number of people showed up. That wasn't particularly good news for me since I haven't played badminton for a few weeks and was not exactly on form, and the small number of people present means that there weren't many breaks I could take. JP and I started off playing four games in a roll. We lost the first and third games but won the second and fourth games, giving us a 2-2 record up to that point. I'm not sure if it was the fact that I was sick for two weeks, or that I was on a diet, but I felt pretty tired after the first game. By the fourth game, I was gasping for breath and couldn't run very well (my cardiovascular fitness leaves a lot to be desired), so I decided to stay in the front and let JP cover the back. That strategy worked pretty well as I didn't have to expand the energy to run all over the place and didn't need to hit many power shots. Also unlike me, JP still had plenty of strength, and we went on to win the game in convincing fashion.

I finally managed to sneak in a break after the four game marathon, and at that time we were joined by two more players. These two guys are pretty skilled and had fresh legs compared to us, so they were split up and each paired with another player. My final game of the night was me and one of the new guys plus JP and the other guy. It was a close game and at the end, my side managed to sneak off with the victory. This final win improves my record to 3-2, giving me a winning record for the night.

Since this was the last organized session with this group of people, I don't really know where I am going to go next week for badminton. I'm pretty sure JP will think of something though.
