Last week there was no Sunday badminton because many of the participants came down with the flu, but this week everyone has gotten better so JP and I went to play some Sunday badminton again. I haven’t played in two weeks and the rust was already starting to build. This was evident in the first game which my partner and I should have won, but ended up losing a close contest because we made too many errors. The second game was JP and I versus the guy who books the court and the son of one of JP’s buddies. Again, this was a game that we should have won, but both JP and I made tons of mistakes and we ended up losing badly, something like 9-21. We didn’t bring our A-game to that contest, and after falling behind a few points we just couldn’t clamp down and battle back. Credit must be given to our opponents though, as they were playing some of the best badminton I have seen them play.
The third and fourth games were JP and I versus some other opponents, and we won both games pretty handily. My fifth game was JP’s buddy and I versus the pair JP and I lost out to in the second game. Our opponents continued their stellar performance, but we held our own and fought to a 17-17 tie. In the two rallies afterwards, I used my front court quickness to get two putdowns to give us a 19-17 lead, and then my partner followed up with two skillful drop shots to earn us the hard-fought victory 21-17.
The last game of the day was a rematch of the second game. JP and I weren’t satisfied with our performance the last time and we were out to avenge our loss. Unlike the last time, JP and I took control from the start and never looked back. In the end we manhandled our opponents in a 21-6 blowout. Our effort was helped by the many errors our opponents made during the game, and I think they were running out of gas after playing so many close games.
Overall this was a pretty good outing. There were some fun games and I got my fair share of exercise. Hopefully I’ll play again next Sunday.
